The Eucharist is the very sacrifice of the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus which He instituted to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until his return in glory. In the celebration of the Eucharist, bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit and the instrumentality of the priest. The whole Christ is truly present -- body, blood, soul, and divinity -- under the appearances of bread and wine, the glorified Christ who rose from the dead.
Because the Eucharist is Jesus, it is the source and summit of our Catholic faith. Through our participation in the Eucharist, we grow in communion with Christ and with each other as we are nourished spiritually.
First Communion for youth is structured each year by the St. Dominic Faith Formation Program. Those entering 2nd grade or older who have not yet received the sacrament are invited to join the preparation. Classes begin in September each year with First Communion normally scheduled for the first weekend in May. Preparation for First Reconciliation is also offered in this year-long course.
