Grounds Cleanup

Spring is here, which means it’s time to clean up the church grounds.  We will be doing this on Saturday, May 2, beginning at 8:00 am.  Please bring rakes, shovels, trimmers, etc. and meet at the church.  Thank you!

Youth Alive Planning Meeting

Calling all adults that enjoy spending time with our youth!  There will be a meeting in the social hall Sunday, April 12th, after the 8:00 AM Mass to plan the upcoming calendar for Youth Alive, grades 6-12.  Please come with ideas for activities and a willingness to help with those activities.  If you are interested or have ideas but cannot make it, please notify Allyson or Deb.

Anointing Masses and Blessing of Prayer Shawls

The Lord shows great concern for the bodily and spiritual welfare of the sick and commands his followers to do the same.  In our Catholic tradition the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is offered to those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age.  This sacrament gives the grace of the Holy Spirit to those who are sick.  Anointing will take place at the Northfield Hospital on Wednesday, April 8, at Three Links on Friday, April 10, at the 10:30 AM Mass Sunday, April 12, and at the Northfield Retirement Center on Wednesday, April 15.

During the 10:30 AM Mass on Sunday, April 12, there will be a blessing of prayer shawls and prayer shawl ministers.  These prayerful ministers create a shawl that is a gift of comfort and peace for those receiving, a reminder of the loving presence of God.  You are welcome to bring your prayer shawls from home.

Decorating Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed to help decorate the church on Saturday, April 4th.  Organizers will be there from 9am – 1pm; come when you can, stay as long as you are able.

AED Training

Important Training Update for Ushers, Parish Council, Parish Staff, All Committee
Members and Mass Coordinators, as well as all interested Parishioners…

St. Dominic has an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), located in the social hall, near the kitchen. It is highly recommended that folks in the above groups know how to locate and use this piece of equipment in a cardiac emergency. This is a great time to learn about the updates in CPR.  WEDNESDAY, March 25, 2015 from 6-7:00pm in the O’Gara Social Hall.

Questions call: Nancy Ludescher, at the Parish Office. 645-8816, ext.203

Northfield Reads

Northfield Reads is a community sponsored gathering for people across the area to come together around a common reading.  The readings are selected to illuminate issues related to human rights.  The goal of this program is to encourage people from diverse corners of our community to meet, to discuss ideas, to share perspectives, to listen to others with openness and respect.  The long term hope is to bring us closer together as a community.

The book selected for this year is Enrique’s Journey.  The book tells of the arduous trip to the US of a Honduran youth in search of his mother who had left years before.  She had gone to the US in search of work to support the children she left behind.  This reading was chosen in response to  the flood of Central American youth into this country last year and to offer insight into the experiences and situations of some within our community.

Northfield Reads is sponsored by: Northfield Human Rights Commission, Northfield Public Library, League of Women Voters, Content Bookstore, Carleton College.  The book is available through both the Library and Content Bookstore.  For more information, contact Corinne Smith or Leah Eby.
